Questions & Answers
What should someone know when coming out to audition for JCS? How should they prepare?
The most important thing I want to see is you and what you bring to the part. Come prepared with a song and monologue of your choosing that showcases who you are and the part you want. This is a rock musical, so I need to hear that in your voice and actions.
Once you sing you will be asked to read your monologue. It does not have to be memorized but know what you are saying so your face is not buried in the script.
For dance, wear comfortable clothes and closed toes shoes. Character shoes are not necessary.
Why did you want to direct JCS?
I feel like the majority of people see this show in one particular fashion. If it is not the original, it is the live version with John Legend. There are so many political situations that are going on in the show that I want to showcase. This show is not much different than the times we are living in now and they will be no different than the times we will face in the future.
What can people expect from this show?
This will not fall under the category of traditional musical theatre. The characters are louder; the choreography is aggressive and out of the box; the costumes are futuristic, sexy, and ambiguous; the set is big, but minimal; and we are hoping to bring some non-traditional casting to the production.
What are you most excited about for this production?
I’m excited for audiences to see something a little different. I want this show to make you think, but also be enjoyable. If you leave with a new perspective on theatre, yourself, or the world, then I have done my job.
What makes this production of JCS different from other versions of the show?
In a past production, they brought in the use of technology and corporations. We are going past that. To a time in the not-so-distant future, dystopian, and post-apocalyptic.
Anything else you want to mention?
All Auditioners must be 18 as of September 15th to audition. There is no age minimum on who can see the show, but it will depict adult content such as violence, the allusion to sexual activity, gambling, drinking, smoking, prostitution, vandalism, and death.
