Community Players

Community Players' production of The Philadelphia Story previews September 4, 2014. In this article, Bob McLaughlin explores the history of this classic comedy. Read the PREVIEW by John Lieder here. Philip Barry’s smart comedy The Philadelphia Story would enjoy a place in history if only for its success on the stage on screen. But beyond its artistic accomplishment, it played an important—indeed vital—lifesaving role for two important institutions: the Theater Guild and Katharine Hepburn. [frame_left][/frame_left] The Theater Guild was originally founded as the Washington Square Players in 1918, a part of the nationwide Little Theater Movement, out of which many great theaters were founded, including our very own Community Players in 1923. The Guild was founded by Lawrence Langer, Philip Moeller, Helen Westley, and Theresa Helbrun, who served as a board of directors, later augmented by others.

Lobby renovations are continuing as funds allow.  Also continuing to update and clean our shop area for better/safer access to materials. Current Season Ticket sales are up from last year. Some changes to our seating policy are as follows: Unless a patron has contacted the box office letting them know they will be arriving late, five minutes before curtain the box office retains the right to reassign unclaimed seats as upgrade or offer  seats to standby list patrons. ALL patrons – including infants must purchase a seat (per Fire Marshall regulations) New website launched.  Some bugs to still be worked out.  Thanks to those who worked on this project. Good response to the survey asking for suggestions for plays/musicals to perform in the next season(s).

Saturday, August 23rd from 8am-2pm Donation Drop Off: Thursday, August 21st from 3pm-8pm Community Players Theater will be holding a Rummage and Bake Sale on Saturday, August 23rd from 8am-2pm. Come join us and find some great bargains and delicious treats! Also, Oogies Food Truck will be there serving lunch from 11-2, so you can even join us for lunch! If you have items you'd like to donate to be sold, you may drop them off at the theater Thursday, August 21st between 3 and 8pm.
